'Twas the night before Law School..

...and all through the library, not a student was stirring, with their heads in their books.

We had two days of orientation before classes stated and then it began, all of a sudden. Our homework assignments were posted on a bulletin board in the hallway in the law school- the way I imagine old school profs used to publicize their assignments back in the day. Without a pen and paper I reverted to taking a picture of the assignment on my phone. It was like a meeting of worlds and a clashing of times. Law school would certainly be different than it was ordinarily depicted in the motion pictures. Today, we pull out computers to tap away notes (and on gchat) during class while simultaneously listening to the profs rattle off somewhat substantive material (depending on the class). I imagine in the olden' days, law schools were all male; the students wore suits to class; they stood up when being called on and took notes on their readings while sitting by a fire as their wives brought them hot coco to comfort them through the reading.

My law school experience would certainly be different. I am a young woman in a field that is still dominated by white males and I am determined to make it to graduation and to a successful and fulfilling job. All in due time.

But anyways, on the night before classes, I had my head in the books working on our first homework assignment. Wednesday meant only two classes: Civil Procedure and Torts. If I remember correctly, CivPro reading was just an introduction but the Torts reading was exceptionally long. I started it around 4pm and didnt go to bed until 2am. What in the heck was I doing at law school? I am a reasonably fast reader and I couldn't get my way through a chapter and a half of a text book?

We all survived the first night and the first day of class and were met with champagne and snacks after class as our PAs surprised us with a treat. :o) After making it through the first half week of school, I started thinking to myself, wow this is different but maybe I'll be able to make it after all....well, maybe.
