move-in day and weddings

Move-in day is always one of the hottest days of the year. I remember Aug 19, 2006 when me and Katie moved into Page 214. I was anxious about coming to school and floored by the amount of stuff that I believed was going to fit into my room. It mostly fit. That year was simply fabulous. As I look at these new firsties moving in, I am so envious of where they are in life. I would give so much to be a first year again (with the same people though of course). There's something so communal about first year...everyone lives in dorms, everyone goes to ohill, and everything is new and exciting. There's a first year mentality of hope and curiosity that I fear is quickly disappearing for us 4th years.

When I was talking to a very wise gal friend of mine this afternoon, I was telling her that this year, while not full of change is the year of preparation for change, a thing I'm not very good at accepting. I hope that God will really work on warming my heart and mind up to these changes and getting me ready for what He has planned for this year.

Later today, I also had the extreme honor of attending two friends' wedding. John and Lauren have been wonderful friends of mine at UVA and have been great examples of what being a good friend, a child of Christ, and generally nice people. I met them under amazingly loving circumstances, and since they they have both continually lived lives of service to others. Alone they are each top notch people, together they are... well honestly I don't have words for it. To say the least, I've never been emotional at a wedding and I def shed a tear or two out of happiness and simply feeling the Holy Spirit there blessing their declaration of marriage and their celebration together.

Today has been an overwhelming day...long and a bit exhausting. I'm glad to go to sleep tonight.

Tomorrow's plan: Trying a new church (not quite sure why but we'll see how it goes) and hopefully hanging out w/ 1st and 2nd year roommate, Katie.
