Monday night, I actually went to bed early! What a novel idea. At 1am I awoke to a text message from my friend Chase, asking me to pray for one of our students down in Nicaragua. I noted it, thought a quick prayer (maybe) and dozed off again. In the morning I looked back at my phone and there was no text. Did I delete it? Was it a straight message from God in my quasi-dream state?
I talked to Chase the next day and he told me that one of our beloved 11-year old chicas in the community had been beaten by her father and then ran a couple of miles to the Manna Project House because she knew that it was a safe place. While this is supposedly not a new situation, the girl had never come to the house seeking refuge. She was by far my favorite child that I got to know in Nicaragua. I felt like my heart was somehow attached to hers when I was down there and was in fact disappointed when on Monday night I didn't feel her pain in my heart before hearing the news. If you're a God-loving reader, please pray for her and her situation. Chase and I found comfort in the verse Psalm 140:12 which reads "I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy."
Life is falling back into place here in Cville. My planner is filled with red, green, blue, and black (yes i color-code!). Appointments are being set up, assignments turned in, I can feel that I'm truly back in the thick of things. Don't get me wrong, I adore academia and I hope to one day end up in it again on the professor side but I can't help but also feel a yearning for the simpler life without hourly responsibilities....
Got class in a bit, so I'm going to go get ready.
