First year when all my friends were at a date function one night, I decided to get on the UVA Events Calendar and check out what was going on around Grounds. I took a stroll down Rugby Road to the Art Museum for Final Fridays that fall evening and ever since have returned for numerous Final Friday Openings. On the last day of (almost) every month, the museum is open to the public providing art, refreshments and hors d'oeuvres, and sometimes entertainment. The first time I went, I flew solo but found myself next to gray haired, wine-sipping men and women from the Charlottesville community, enjoying the same art and atmosphere. It felt right.
Three years later, I still find myself going, this time inviting friends to come along and being fondly surprised to walk in and see crowds of people I know- now of age sipping our whites and reds while examining wall size paintings and photographs.
(note to self: where ever I end up long term, needs to have events like this!)
I love it, too. You should have seen it on fourth-year night, though... so many people, and most of them were just there for the free food, haha.
