It was such a glorious time.
My friend Cronk and I drove down from Northern VA and beat the crowd there but still managed to get a little lost on the way. Our reward for driving an extra half hour out of the way was stopping at the Sonic somewhere between Deltaville, Mathews and Yorktown!? Sonic reminds me of drives down to the outerbanks with friends for Beach Week, so I could already tell this weekend was going to start off well.
Another couple cars of people arrived but it was still just the boys and me. We grabbed some beers (BLLs of course!) and headed out to the dock to break out the fishing rods and the tackle box. I had never gone fishing before so I was learning about how to string the rod, attach the weight and hook, and how to cast. The girls then arrived and we headed inside to have dinner.
That night, after a number of beers, I took the spotlight for a bit and told some ridiculous tales that are my life and got good/hilarious feedback. The next morning I woke up and sat on the dock reading and journaling for awhile which was great. We fished and caught crabs. Took kayaks and the boat out on the water, went on walks and ran into random friends. At 6pm Morrissett's g-ma invited us over for drinks. We snacked on Brasher's guacamole creation and other chips while sipping our drinks and chatting it up with grandma Evelyn.
That night we had a FEAST of Korean beef and rice prepared by Tom and a Low Country Boil of corn, potatoes, shrimp, crabs (that we caught), and onion thrown together by Morrissett. Several more BLLs, John Dalys, and Long Islands later we started playing a NUMBER/NAME game as a drinking game. We then headed out to the dock again to check out the stars and play with sparklers.
The following day we all went out to the sandbar and played in the water before watching the final World Cup game (Ole! Espana!) and leaving the Bay.
All in all, this was probably my favorite weekend of my summer. It was so great to see my friends who I haven't gotten to spend quality time with since a week after graduation and it was so relaxing to get away from home and love on/feel the love of such solid people.
Friends = family! love you all.
p.s. get the meat out of that dogs mouth!
this is so cute and makes me wish i were there. can't wait to see you!!! i am enlisting help, btw!
